Ice Cube: BIG3 doesn't want undrafted NBA hopefuls like LiAngelo Ball
The NBA passed on him, and now the BIG3 has made it known it has no interest in bringing LiAngelo Ball on board.
During a recent conference call, co-founder Ice Cube said signing Ball and other undrafted NBA hopefuls would turn the BIG3 into a pro-am league - something he doesn't want to happen.
"No. We feel like that's what the G League is for, and what the NBA is for. You know, players that have the potential to play basketball at the highest level, we don't want to start plucking from that group of talent," Cube told Nir Regev of FanSided.com when asked if the BIG3 would consider signing Ball. "What we want is players who've already played in the NBA, who've already reached a certain level.
"Ones who could come in and bring a fan base with them. As well as fulfilling the promise of letting players play with their peers, we don't want this to turn into a pro-am league or anything like that. We want this to be a place where players want to come play."
On the latest episode of "Ball in the Family," it was revealed that LiAngelo expected to be selected by either the Los Angeles Lakers or Phoenix Suns in the 2018 NBA Draft. He suggested afterward that his shoplifting arrest in China may have played a role in him going undrafted.
