Report: Suns among teams trying to trade for Tyus Jones

As most of the NBA fixes its eyes on Jimmy Butler, some teams are reportedly trying to swoop in and poach a less heralded Minnesota Timberwolf.

The Phoenix Suns have inquired about Wolves point guard Tyus Jones, sources told ESPN's Zach Lowe.

5 Eyewitness News' Darren Wolfson confirmed Lowe's report, adding that other teams have also asked about Jones but that the Suns - with their complete lack of point-guard depth - have been most aggressive in their pursuit. The New Orleans Pelicans have reportedly shown interest in the Minnesota native in the past.

There've been rumblings about a potential Jones trade ever since the Wolves decided to bring back Derrick Rose this past summer, but the team has told suitors they aren't interested in trading the point guard at this time, according to Wolfson. They haven't, however, engaged the 22-year-old in extension talks.

Without an extension, Jones will become a restricted free agent in July. He's coming off a season in which his pedestrian stats (5.1 points, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals) belied his overall impact. He was part of the Wolves' most successful five-man lineup, ranked second on the team in individual defensive rating and net rating, and finished 15th in the NBA in real plus-minus.
