Report: McCaw's agent urged him to accept deal with Warriors

Patrick McCaw's agent apparently urged the guard to accept a deal with the Golden State Warriors rather than remain a restricted free agent, according to The Athletic's Anthony Slater.

McCaw declined to sign his $1.7-million qualifying offer and turned down a reported two-year, $5.2-million deal with the Warriors. The second year of the contract would have been a team option, giving Golden State an additional year of control.

He instead sided with his father, Jeff, who wants his son to find an opportunity elsewhere with a more prominent role in a rotation, sources told Slater.

The decision to remain a restricted free agent gives the Warriors the chance to match any deal McCaw signs through the next year. The 22-year-old would have potentially become an unrestricted free agent next summer had he accepted one of the two offers.

McCaw averaged four points, 1.4 boards, and 1.4 assists in 57 contests last season. He missed one month of action after fracturing his wrist in February against the Phoenix Suns and shortly upon returning, suffered a scary fall against the Sacramento Kings, forcing him to sit another two months with a bone bruise in his lower back.
