Report: Bulls to waive Asik

It looks like the end of the line for Omer Asik - though his cap hit will remain for future generations of Chicago Bulls fans to enjoy.

In order to facilitate the addition of guard Shaquille Harrison on a waiver claim, the Bulls are expected to waive the well-compensated veteran center, according to the Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson.

Asik has been away from the team this season due to inflammatory arthritis. The 32-year-old has appeared in just 49 games over the past two seasons, recording 2.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in 13.6 minutes per outing.

The Turkish national is still owed a whopping $11.3 million this season with $3 million guaranteed for 2019-20 - the final dregs of the five-year contract with $44 million in guaranteed salary he signed with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2015. Asik, who started his NBA career in Chicago from 2010-12 before signing with the Houston Rockets and then New Orleans, was reacquired by the Bulls ahead of the trade deadline this past February as part of the Nikola Mirotic trade.

Harrison made 23 appearances with the Phoenix Suns last year, but was among the team's final cuts ahead of the 2018-19 season. The 6-foot-4 guard put up 6.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.1 steals in 16.7 minutes per game.
