Murray meant 'no disrespect' with late shot attempt

It was evident Jamal Murray was gunning for 50 points in the Denver Nuggets' 115-107 win over the visiting Boston Celtics. With his point total already pushed to a career-high 48, Murray took a pair of shots with fewer than 18 seconds left in a game that was essentially over - the sort of situation where most teams elect to run out the clock.

In particular, Murray's final, last-ditch attempt to crack 50 points on the night came on a 31-foot heave with one second remaining, an action Celtics star guard Kyrie Irving dubbed a "bullshit move," even while respecting the totality of Murray's scoring performance.

Murray explained his perspective on the final possession, a faux pas that rankled his opponents but didn't appear to weigh heavily on him in the postgame media scrum.

"I didn't have (any) conscience, like, I really don't care at that point. I think that's the reason I took that shot at that point," Murray laughed. "Everybody knew I was trying to go for 50, that's the problem.

"I didn't mean no disrespect. Like I said, my emotion just took over, like it did with the Lakers last year," Murray added, citing a pair of incidents in which he appeared to mock Lonzo Ball in one game while drawing the ire of Lakers coach Luke Walton in another. "I just kind of lose myself sometimes."
