Report: Butler was prepared to sit indefinitely if not traded

Jimmy Butler's tenure with the Minnesota Timberwolves is over, as his blockbuster trade to the Philadelphia 76ers was made official on Monday.

However, Butler had already decided that Friday's loss to the Sacramento Kings was the end of his time in Minneapolis, as the four-time All-Star was prepared to sit out indefinitely until his trade demand was met, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski.

The Timberwolves ended up falling 121-110 to the Kings, their fifth consecutive loss and apparently the boiling point for the franchise with regards to Butler. The team was also reportedly informed that Butler was finished showing up and that a trade had to happen.

Butler and Justin Patton were ultimately sent to the Sixers in exchange for Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless, and a second-round pick.

The move was reportedly one of three on the table for Minnesota. The Houston Rockets apparently proposed a trade involving Eric Gordon, Nene, and two first-round picks, while the New Orleans Pelicans were offering Nikola Mirotic and an unprotected first-round pick.

Although the Miami Heat were often brought up in trade discussions, they were reportedly unwilling to part ways with Josh Richardson despite involving him in potential scenarios in October.
