Harden drops 54 points, 13 assists in OT loss to Wizards
James Harden's sublime offensive performance Monday night wasn't enough to lift the Chris Paul-less Houston Rockets to victory.
The six-time All-Star finished with 54 points and 13 assists in a 135-131 overtime loss to the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena. He also added eight rebounds, three steals, and turned the rock over 11 times for the suboptimal triple-double.
Harden's shot chart
It was Harden's 10th career 50-point performance, and the fifth time he's scored at least 50 and dished out 10 or more dimes. No other player has achieved that more than three times.
Career 50-point Games
Player | Games |
---|---|
Wilt Chamberlain | 118 |
Michael Jordan | 31 |
Kobe Bryant | 25 |
Elgin Baylor | 17 |
Rick Barry | 14 |
LeBron James | 12 |
Allen Iverson | 11 |
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar | 10 |
James Harden | 10 |
He's the seventh player to score at least 50 points in a game this season, joining Stephen Curry, Blake Griffin, LeBron James, Derrick Rose, Klay Thompson, and Kemba Walker.
The 29-year-old shooting guard has now recorded a 50-point game in five straight seasons. Wilt Chamberlain is the only player to have a longer streak.
Harden's teammate Eric Gordon contributed a season-high 36 points with eight makes from behind the arc. Combined with Harden's 54, it's the second-most points scored by a starting backcourt (90) since 1970-71, trailing only Kobe Bryant (81) and Smush Parker (13) in 2006.
Houston falls to 9-10 with the loss and sits 13th in the Western Conference.
