Watch: Kyrie talks about his love of skateboarding on 'Sneaker Shopping'
Along with playing basketball, Kyrie Irving was also an avid skateboarder growing up. However, as he explained on the latest episode of Complex's "Sneaker Shopping," his father wasn't keen on him doing both.
"I wasn't even worried about the (basketball) coaches, I was worried about my dang dad, man," Irving told host Joe La Puma. "My dad was adamant, man. One time, I tried to do an ollie over a rock, I hit the rock, I haven't skated since.
"I don't want to say I haven't skated since, but that was the last time I honestly took skating serious(ly). I was just like, goodness, for my life; I wanted to be a skater when I was growing up."
Although Irving no longer takes skateboarding seriously, he did pay homage to his love of the sport in 2016 with the Nike Kyrie 2 GS "Skateboard" sneaker.
