Bronny honors father LeBron by donning No. 23 in L.A. debut
Like father, like son.
LeBron James Jr., who also goes by Bronny, made his debut with Santa Monica Crossroads' eighth-grade basketball team on Monday as his famous father watched from the sidelines.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar was surprised to see his 14-year-old son wearing his No. 23, as Bronny had previously worn No. 0 on the AAU circuit - being a fan of Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook.
"I don't know how long it's going to last, but it definitely made me proud," James said of the switch on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
"It's like a really good feeling. His first game was (Monday) and he had a hell of a game and both of them (Bryce James, 11) play (Tuesday), so I'm going to catch both of their games, but it's just a proud family going on in our household and I'm a proud dad."
Bronny dropped 27 points in front of 100 or so onlookers Monday to lead Crossroads to a 61-48 victory over the visiting Culver City Middle School.
James admitted that while he can "get a little stressed" watching his children compete, he cherishes the opportunities to do so.
"That's the best part about it, seeing my kids grow and seeing my boys play sports and my daughter being in dance classes and swimming lessons and things of that nature and being in gymnastics and being able to just go support them," James said. "The tough part is when I'm on the road and they're doing those things as well, so that's a tough part, but the availability when I'm here and they're working, I get to relax - a little bit."
