Watch: Whiteside heads to locker room early after sitting entire 4th quarter
Hassan Whiteside wasn't going to wait around until the final buzzer to bring his Tuesday night to a close.
With 40.5 seconds remaining in the Miami Heat's 105-90 loss to the Orlando Magic, the 29-year-old was seen on the sidelines making his way to the locker room at American Airlines Arena.
Whiteside finished the first half connecting on all six of his shot attempts for 12 points and six rebounds in 15 minutes. That momentum didn't carry over into the third quarter, though, as he missed his lone field-goal attempt and both of his free throws as Orlando outscored Miami 30-12 in the frame.
The 7-foot center was then benched for the entire fourth quarter.
While Dwyane Wade told reporters postgame that Whiteside had said he was just going to use the bathroom, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra had yet to receive an explanation for the early departure.
"Probably extremely upset like we all are," said Spoelstra, according to ESPN.
The loss drops the Heat to 9-14 and 10th in the Eastern Conference.
