House unable to reach deal with Rockets, could return to G League

The Houston Rockets may have lost another player and it has nothing to do with injury.

Houston failed to reach an agreement with forward Danuel House Jr. on a regular NBA contract, his agent, Raymond Brothers, confirmed to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

Brothers told MacMahon that Houston initially offered House a non-guaranteed three-year NBA contract, then changed the offer to guaranteed on Tuesday.

"We rejected both offers and asked the Rockets to convert him for the remainder of the season," Brothers said.

As a result, House will remain on a two-way contract and likely spend the rest of the season with the G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Under league rules, players on such deals are limited to 45 days of NBA service per season, a quota House has met. He could still accept the Rockets' offer and return to the NBA but that's not expected, according to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen.

By declining the offer, House's camp ensures he will become a restricted free agent this coming summer.

To make matters worse for the Rockets, House has been a key contributor thanks to injuries and lack of depth on the wing. He's started the last 12 games for Houston and is averaging 10.6 points on 48.1 percent 3-point shooting over that span.

An undrafted free agent in 2016, House played a total of 24 NBA games with the Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns before this season.

The Rockets expect to sign another wing to a 10-day contract on Wednesday, according to Feigen.
