Report: Lakers, Bulls discussing deal involving Caldwell-Pope, Parker
The Los Angeles Lakers have spoken to the Chicago Bulls about acquiring Jabari Parker ahead of the Feb. 7 trade deadline, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported Monday on the "Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective" podcast.
The Lakers are reportedly trying to land Parker in an exchange involving Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who has a no-trade clause in his contract.
"Caldwell-Pope is available and has been floated out there for some spots. One place that they have talked to - now I'm not saying this deal is going to get done - but one place they have talked to is Chicago for Jabari Parker," Windhorst said. "And the thing about this is that Caldwell-Pope has to approve of a trade ... I'm not sure that's going to get done, but that's been discussed.
"The Bulls really like Caldwell-Pope … Parker could be a Laker within the next few days. Jabari is a polarizing player, but he might be interesting on the Lakers."
Parker, the second overall pick of the 2014 Draft, has been sidelined for the majority of his NBA career because of two ACL tears and has missed 14 games this year. He's averaged 14.3 points a game on 47.4 percent shooting from the field and 32.5 percent from beyond the arc when healthy this season.
Caldwell-Pope has appeared in each of the Lakers' 53 games this campaign, averaging 10.3 points on 43.2 percent shooting from the field and 34.8 percent shooting from 3-point distance. Because he's on his second consecutive one-year deal with the Lakers, his contract includes a no-trade clause.
Parker reached a two-year deal worth $40 million this past summer to play in his hometown of Chicago. The contract includes a team option in its second year. He was pulled from the Bulls' rotation for an extended period of time in December.
The Lakers have been busy ahead of the trade deadline and are reportedly trying to add New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis to their roster.
