Abdul-Jabbar memorabilia fetches nearly $3M at auction
A collection of memorabilia belonging to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar netted nearly $3 million at auction Sunday, according to ESPN.
The Hall of Fame center put 234 items - including four of his six championship rings and the basketball he used to become the NBA's all-time scoring leader - for sale through Goldin Auctions in October. He earmarked a significant portion of the proceeds for his Skyhook Foundation, which helps give children from underserved communities opportunities to learn about science, technology, engineering, and math.
Abdul-Jabbar's 1987 championship ring, which he won with the Los Angeles Lakers, pulled in the most money of any item at $398,937.50. His 1985 ring sold for $343,700, while his 1980 and 1988 rings fetched $245,500 each.
The total price of all items sold was $2,947,872.25.
