The U.S. Supreme Court announced on Monday that it won't hear a lawsuit against Nike over the image that inspired Michael Jordan's iconic "Jumpman" logo, according to Jessica Gresko of the Associated Press.

Photographer Jacobus Rentmeester sued Nike in 2015, alleging the idea for the silhouette image of Jordan dunking was taken from a picture he took of the then-North Carolina junior in 1984 for Life magazine.

The following year, Nike commissioned a similar photograph - with the Chicago skyline as a backdrop - and used it as the basis for the Jumpman logo found on Nike's Jordan apparel.

A federal court in Oregon threw out Rentmeester's claim four years ago. Monday's Supreme Court decision means a lower-court ruling for Nike will stand.
