Derrick Rose learned on June 22, 2016, that the Chicago Bulls were trading him to the New York Knicks.
Camera crews were following Rose at the time for a Stadium Films documentary titled "Pooh: The Derrick Rose Story," which aired Thursday night.
Just prior to receiving a phone call about the trade, Rose was discussing how he avoided rumors and wanted to stay with his hometown Bulls, who selected him first overall in 2008. He then received that call from his agent, BJ Armstrong, who informed him that the Knicks were acquiring him.
The 2011 Most Valuable Player was visibly emotional upon hearing the news. It was confirmed days later that Rose, Justin Holiday, and a second-round pick were traded to the Knicks for Jose Calderon, Robin Lopez, and Jerian Grant.
Rose spent a single season in New York, during which he averaged 18 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists across 64 appearances. His campaign ended prematurely due to a torn meniscus in his left knee which required surgery.
