Report: Knicks' scouts like Cam Reddish
The New York Knicks may be keeping tabs on a different Duke star.
Talent evaluators with the franchise are high on forward Cam Reddish and some within the Knicks' front office believe his game will translate well to the NBA, sources told SNY's Ian Begley.
Despite the Knicks' reported fondness for the former freshman, the 19-year-old is far from a guarantee to play at Madison Square Garden next season. At 14-percent odds, New York is tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns for the best chance of landing the No. 1 pick, which is widely expected to be used on Reddish's college teammate Zion Williamson.
Fellow Duke star RJ Barrett and Murray State guard Ja Morant are leading contenders to round out the top three.
New York cannot select lower than fifth thanks to the new lottery system implemented this year. Reddish ranks as the seventh-best talent heading into the draft, according to ESPN, and the best available small forward - arguably a position of need for the Knicks.
Reddish struggled with his shot in his freshman year, mustering a 35.6 field-goal percentage. He averaged 13.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.6 steals during the season and helped the Blue Devils reach the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.
The Knicks, of course, may end up bypassing the draft entirely. New York will have approximately enough cap room to sign two max free agents this summer and could opt to include the pick in a trade to acquire a third superstar.
