Jokic to compete for Serbia in 2019 FIBA World Cup
Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic will be suiting up for his native Serbia in this year's FIBA World Cup in China, the 24-year-old told Serbian State News Agency (via ESPN).
"I am very pleased with everything I did in the NBA this season, I had a great year in which I performed at the All-Star Game and was selected (to the All-NBA first team). For me, the cherry on top of this whole season would be a medal with the national team," Jokic said. "I am fully prepared to do my best to achieve this goal."
Jokic has captured a pair of silver medals as a member of the Serbian national squad, with his most recent coming during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He averaged a double-double of 20.1 points and 10.8 rebounds, along with 7.3 assists and 1.4 steals this season for the Nuggets, who got to within one win of a Western Conference finals berth. Jokic also played in his first All-Star Game and was named to the All-NBA first team.
The 2019 tournament gets underway Aug. 31.
