Carter: I got one more season in me
Vince Carter is getting ready to enter campaign No. 22 of his illustrious NBA career, and though it has seemed for years that he would play forever, fans should prepare for this to be his last season.
The former All-Star appeared on ESPN's "The Jump" with Rachel Nichols and Stephen Jackson on Wednesday and said he's gearing up for one final year before he walks away from the NBA.
"I got one more in me," Carter said on the show. "One more run in me."
Nichols poked fun at Carter's announcement, noting that she had heard such a claim before.
"Three years ago, you told me two more years. Two years ago, you told me two more years," she said.
"I'm at one. Last one," Carter assured.
The 42-year-old continues to find a role on teams throughout the Association despite being the oldest player in the league and fifth-oldest player all time to appear in an NBA game.
Carter can leapfrog Dikembe Mutombo - who played until he was 42 years and 300 days old - as the fourth-oldest player ever if he plays this season.
He's set to enter free agency one last time with a career resume that includes eight All-Star appearances and two All-NBA selections, as well as 1999 Rookie of the Year honors and perhaps his most famous achievement, winning the 2000 Slam Dunk contest.
Carter averaged 7.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 76 appearances last year for the Hawks.
