Kawhi on free agency: 'You know what you want,' but focused on Finals
The Toronto Raptors are two wins away from their first-ever NBA championship, and that goal is apparently all that's on the mind of the player who's led them this far - even with free agency looming.
"Not now," Leonard told ESPN's Rachel Nichols on whether if he's given any thought to his future beyond the NBA Finals. "You know what you want, but ... I'm not even thinking about signing or what team I'm going to in free agency, I just focus on what's in front of me right now."
With another road win over the Golden State Warriors in Game 4 on Friday, the Raptors would take a 3-1 series lead and could win the NBA title back home in Canada on Monday night. The Finals could potentially last up until June 16, exactly two weeks before NBA free agency begins on June 30. Leonard is expected to opt out of his current contract to become an unrestricted free agent during that time.
While speculation has existed all season that Leonard could return to his hometown of Los Angeles next season, his camp has indicated very little about his plans. His uncle and business manager, Dennis Robertson, said last month that Leonard has "often spoke highly" of Toronto.
Leonard is averaging 30.9 points, nine rebounds, and a 32.5 percent usage rate in 21 playoff games this spring - all postseason career highs.
