With the No. 44 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Miami Heat selected Oregon center Bol Bol. The pick will be traded to the Denver Nuggets, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
The son of the Manute Bol - one of the tallest players in NBA history - entered 2018-19 as the sixth-ranked recruit in the country out of Findlay Prep in suburban Las Vegas. However, a left foot injury limited him to just nine collegiate games at Oregon.
In that limited sample size, Bol averaged 21 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game on 52 percent 3-point shooting.
Bio
NBA position: C
School: Oregon
College experience: Freshman
Height: 7-foot-2Weight: 208 lbs
Wingspan: 7-foot-7
Standing reach: 9-foot-7
Strengths
- There aren't many 7-foot-2 players entering the NBA with an effective 3-point shot. By virtue of his height, he's difficult to block on the perimeter.
- Utilizes height and a great sense of timing as a shot-blocker.
- Has a strong handle for a player his size and is good passer in the open floor.
Weaknesses
- Bol weighed in at just 208 lbs at the combine, which is almost 30 lbs lessthan he weighed during the season. He already lacked the muscle and strength to operate in the NBA paint.
- In addition to gaining bulk, Bol must develop a better post game beyond finishing lobs, and he can't become a one-dimensional outside shooter.
