Report: Hornets don't plan to extend qualifying offer to Kaminsky
The Charlotte Hornets won't tender a qualifying offer to big man Frank Kaminsky, which will allow him to become a free agent this summer, a source told The Athletic's Rod Boone.
Kaminsky, 26, would have been owed just $4.48 million next season via the qualifying offer, but Boone notes the franchise is low in cap space and dealing with a "logjam" in its frontcourt.
The contracts of Nicolas Batum, Bismack Biyombo, Cody Zeller, and Marvin Williams are potentially the biggest contributors to Charlotte's financial and roster crunch; the four players are set to earn a combined 72 million next season, with Batum earning $25.6 million alone, according to Spotrac.
Biyombo and Williams will become free agents next summer, though Batum can exercise a $27.1-million player option. Zeller is under contract through the 2020-21 season.
Charlotte drafted Kaminsky ninth overall in 2015. He's averaged 9.8 points, four rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game through four seasons.
