Nuggets, Murray agree to 5-year, $170M max extension

The Denver Nuggets and star point guard Jamal Murray have agreed to a five-year, $170-million max contract extension, his agent, Mike George, told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

For the third straight offseason, the Nuggets secured one of their rising stars to a long-term deal; they gave Nikola Jokic a five-year max deal last summer and Gary Harris a four-year, $84-million contract in October 2017.

Murray has developed into one of the Nuggets' top scoring options and has proven he can be a valuable spark plug in Denver's offense. The point guard played a major role in helping the Nuggets reach Round 2 of the playoffs last season despite their young core.

Murray, 22, averaged 18.2 points and 4.8 assists in 2018-19, ranking second on the team to Jokic in both categories.
