Report: Grizzlies send Parsons to Hawks for Hill, Plumlee

Chandler Parsons' disappointing tenure with the Memphis Grizzlies has reportedly come to an end, as the injury-hampered forward is being traded to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Solomon Hill and Miles Plumlee, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 30-year-old small forward was unable to reach a buyout agreement with the Grizzlies on the $25.1 million he's owed for the final season of the four-year, $94.4-million deal he signed three summers ago, Wojnarowski reports.

Hill and Plumlee are also beneficiaries of a wild 2016 offseason when a massive spike in the salary cap resulted in many lavish, long-term contracts being signed. Both are entering the final years of their deals as well, due $12.8 million and $12.5 million, respectively. Altogether, the three players locked in $192.4 million worth of guaranteed contracts during that infamous summer.

Parsons, however, was more than an average player prior to his arrival in Memphis. Through his first five seasons - three with the Houston Rockets and two with the Dallas Mavericks - he proved to be a capable offensive weapon. After a promising rookie year, the former second-rounder averaged 15.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game from 2012-16, though he consistently missed time due to injury.

Those injury concerns finally reached a boiling point with the Grizzlies. Parsons made just 95 appearances in the regular season over the past three years, averaging just 7.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in under 20 minutes per game.

Despite being medically cleared to return from a setback in December, the Grizzlies continued to hold Parsons out as a healthy inactive, causing the veteran to take an indefinite leave. With Memphis long out of playoff contention, Parsons eventually returned to the lineup in late February, playing in 22 of the team's final 23 games.
