Report: Warriors extend qualifying offer to Cook

The Golden State Warriors presented guard Quinn Cook with a qualifying offer, league sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.

By doing so, Golden State will hold the right to match any offer sheet Cook signs with another team once free agency opens on June 30.

Despite playing fewer minutes on average than his 33-game audition for the Warriors in 2017-18, Cook further cemented his place in the team's rotation this year. His 1,059 total minutes ranked eighth on the club.

The 26-year-old put up 6.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on 40.5 percent 3-point shooting in 74 regular-season games.

If Cook does return, he figures to play a significant role in a backcourt rotation in flux. While two-time MVP Stephen Curry is still penciled in at point guard, star shooting guard Klay Thompson is an unrestricted free agent - and even if he does re-sign, as is expected, he's facing a major injury layoff as he recovers from a torn ACL. The only other Warriors guards under contract through next season are an athletically diminished Shaun Livingston and lightly used 2018 first-rounder Jacob Evans.
