Report: Mirotic to sign with Barcelona of EuroLeague
Free-agent forward Nikola Mirotic will sign with Spanish basketball club Barcelona, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Mirotic was in line for an NBA contract potentially worth $45 million to $50 million, Charnia notes. The Utah Jazz, Dallas Mavericks, and a number of other teams were reportedly ready to entice the sharpshooting big, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.
The 28-year-old, who holds dual citizenship in Montenegro and Spain, has played professionally in the Iberian country before. He spent nine years under contract with Barcelona's rivals, Real Madrid, from 2006-14. He then made the switch overseas and signed a three-year deal with the Chicago Bulls in July 2014.
Mirotic also represented the New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks in five NBA seasons. He averaged 12.3 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 35.9 percent from 3-point range during his time in the league.
