Report: Warriors, Thompson agree to 5-year, $190M max deal

The Golden State Warriors have agreed to sign All-Star Klay Thompson to a five-year, $190-million contract, sources told The New York Times' Marc Stein.

It comes as no surprise that the Warriors wanted to quickly bring back the other half of the Splash Brothers in an attempt to remain competitive after Kevin Durant chose to sign with the Brooklyn Nets.

Thompson could miss the majority of next season as he recovers from an ACL tear he suffered in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

The Warriors may find it difficult to fight through the Western Conference next season after losing Durant. With Thompson injured, the team will begin the 2019-20 campaign with just two All-Star caliber talents - Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

However, there's still a chance Thompson returns in time for a potential playoff run. In addition, the Warriors were able to prove last season that, even without Durant, they're still as competitive as any team in the NBA after sweeping the Portland Trail Blazers without the two-time NBA Finals MVP in the Western Conference finals.

Thompson consistently ranks among the best shooters in the Association and is capable of catching fire at any moment. He averaged 21.5 points and shot 40.2 percent from the perimeter last season as a third scoring option.
