Clippers guarantee Williams' 2020-21 salary full year in advance
Though the third and final year of his current contract was only partially guaranteed and did not need to be resolved until next offseason, the Los Angeles Clippers have committed to giving Lou Williams his full $8-million salary for 2020-21, his agent, Wallace Prather, told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Williams is currently entering Year 2 of a three-year, $24-million contract, but the 2020-21 season was only partially guaranteed for $2 million, according to Charania.
The team's decision to guarantee the 32-year-old point guard's third season nearly a year in advance comes after he claimed Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2018-19.
Williams has led the Clippers in total points in each of the past two seasons, averaging 21.4 per game along with 5.3 assists despite primarily coming off the bench. In the process, he won the Sixth Man award for the second and third times after doing so with the Toronto Raptors during the 2014-15 campaign.
