Fredette leaves Warriors' summer league team to pursue deal overseas
Former collegiate star Jimmer Fredette has left the Golden State Warriors' summer league team after just two appearances to avoid potentially suffering an injury while he considers multiple offers to play overseas, sources told The Athletic's Sam Amick.
"I spoke with him last night," Warriors summer league coach Aaron Miles said, according to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk. "He said he wasn't ... was kind of over it. I guess his agent has spoken with our people, so I called him and thanked him for his time. His reasoning is his reasoning. I'm glad he had a chance to come and impact us."
The former BYU guard averaged 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in two games for the Warriors during the California Classic but left prior to Wednesday's finale versus the Miami Heat.
Fredette joined the Phoenix Suns in March for a late-season stint, during which he appeared in just six games - the first time since 2016 that he played in the NBA.
The 30-year-old was drafted No. 10 overall in the 2011 draft but failed to live up to lofty expectations. The sharpshooting guard eventually carved out a terrific career with the Shanghai Sharks in the Chinese Basketball Association, with which he burst back onto the scene with a 75-point performance in 2017.
