The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired forward Jake Layman in a sign-and-trade with the Portland Trail Blazers, his agent Mark Bartelstein told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Layman will sign a three-year, $11.5-million deal with the Blazers before being shipped to Minneapolis. The Timberwolves will absorb the contract into a trade exception that was created in a draft-day deal with the Phoenix Suns.

"We’re extremely appreciative of how hard (Blazers president) Neil Olshey worked with us to accommodate what we were trying to accomplish in this sign-and-trade," Bartelstein said, according to Wojnarowski. "The deal couldn’t have happened without the Blazers looking out for Jake’s best interests."

The 6-foot-9 Layman was able to carve out a role in Portland's rotation last season, averaging 7.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in 18.7 minutes per game.
