Jazz officially land Conley from Grizzlies
The Utah Jazz confirmed Saturday they have acquired point guard Mike Conley from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Grayson Allen, Jae Crowder, Kyle Korver, the draft rights to Darius Bazley, and a future protected first-round pick.
Grizzlies owner Robert J. Pera said the team fully intends to eventually retire Conley's jersey.
"Mike Conley represented the Grizzlies and the City of Memphis with true heart and class during his 12 seasons," Pera said in a statement. "His talent, determination, and resilience elevated our team to a perennial playoff contender, and his altruism and sportsmanship helped shape the community-focused nature of our franchise.
"For his innumerable contributions on the court and in our community, Mike will always be a beloved Memphian. We are proud that Mike's (number) 11 jersey will one day be raised to the rafters in FedExForum."
Conley, 31, averaged 14.9 points, 5.7 assists, three rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 788 games across 12 seasons with Memphis. The fourth overall pick of the 2007 NBA Draft will partner with rising phenom Donovan Mitchell in Utah's backcourt as the Jazz look to advance past the conference semifinals for the first time since 2007.
"Mike Conley had a tremendous impact in Memphis and always impressed us with his skills on the court, passion for doing good in the community, and reputation as a great teammate," Utah's executive vice president of basketball operations Dennis Lindsey said in a statement. "We share that same commitment to excellence and are excited to welcome Mike and his family to the Jazz, Salt Lake City, and Utah.
"Mike brings outstanding qualities to our organization and we look forward to working together toward our collective goals."
