Report: Chinese league to bar players facing NBA bans for drugs or violence
Players facing disciplinary sanctions from other professional leagues related to drug or violent offenses will no longer be able to sign in the Chinese Basketball Association, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
For example, free-agent guard Tyreke Evans is currently facing a two-season suspension after violating the NBA's anti-drug policy. Under the new reported rules, he would be barred from seeking refuge in China's top domestic league.
Multi-season or permanent bans are still quite rare in the NBA. Other than Evans, there have been only two other bans longer than one season this millennium: Chris Andersen in 2005 and O.J. Mayo in 2016. Andersen was reinstated after sitting out two years - including the entire 2006-07 campaign - while Mayo was eligible for reinstatement prior to 2018-19.
