Report: Bennett to undergo knee surgery, not expected to make Rockets' roster

Houston Rockets forward Anthony Bennett will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, a source told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

The procedure is expected to prevent Bennett from making the Rockets' roster out of training camp. The team invited the former No. 1 pick to its camp this summer after he signed a non-guaranteed deal with Houston.

Bennett, 26, has played with four different teams across four seasons but hasn't appeared in an NBA game since doing so with the Brooklyn Nets in 2017. He owns career averages of 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 12.6 minutes per game.

Drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2013, Bennett played one season in Cleveland before the Cavaliers shipped him to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of the three-team deal that brought Kevin Love to Ohio. Bennett struggled as a sophomore and was waived ahead of the 2015-16 season. He then joined the Toronto Raptors but only played 19 games with his hometown club.

Bennett averaged 12.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.9 steals in 25 games with the Los Angeles Clippers' G League affiliate last season. He also converted 44.9% of his three-point attempts.
