The Detroit Pistons are reportedly planning to build a statue commemorating Hall of Fame point guard Isiah Thomas, a source told Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press.
There is no reported timeline for the construction of the statue.
The Pistons have yet to build a statue in celebration of a player's contributions. The NHL's Detroit Red Wings, who share Little Caesars Arena with the Pistons, have numerous statues displayed throughout the venue's concourse.
Thomas played a crucial role on both ends of the court for the "Bad Boy" Pistons during their back-to-back championship runs in the 1988-89 and 1989-90 campaigns, averaging team highs in points, assists, and steals in both postseasons.
The Hall of Fame point guard still leads the franchise in numerous statistical categories, including points, assists, steals, and minutes while ranking fourth in win shares.
Thomas' 9,061 assists rank eighth in NBA history.
