The NBA ruled Thursday that the Washington Wizards will not receive a disabled player exception for injured point guard John Wall, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Washington had reportedly applied for a $9.2-million exception, Charania adds.

Wall, 29, is expected to miss the entire season recovering from a torn Achilles tendon in his left foot. Though the Wizards don't anticipate him returning to the court in 2019-20, a player must be officially ruled out until June 15 in order for a team to receive a disabled player exception, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. The Wizards' last official update on Wall in February said he was expected to return in approximately 12 months from the time of his surgery.

The Wizards applied for and received an $8.6-million disabled player exception for Wall last season after he underwent season-ending surgery to address a Haglund's deformity - a bony bump in the back of his left heel. He was only expected to be sidelined for six-to-eight months but later ruptured his Achilles following a fall in his home while recovering from the surgery.
