Brooks: LeBron would be 9-time MVP if voters weren't tired of voting for him

Another night, another win for the Los Angeles Lakers, who stretched their winning streak to 10 games with a 125-103 drubbing of the visiting Washington Wizards on Friday night thanks in part to LeBron James' 16th double-double of the season.

James' continued excellence prompted a postgame observation from Wizards coach Scott Brooks.

"If you guys were not so tired of giving him the MVP, he should have nine of them by now," Brooks scolded the media, according to The Athletic's Fred Katz.

James has finished top three in MVP voting on 10 occasions, including his four wins for the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2011-12, and 2012-13 seasons. He was runner-up as recently 2017-18, when Houston Rockets guard James Harden earned his first MVP trophy.

Though James' scoring (25.7 points per game) this season has dipped below his career average (27.1), his expanded role as the Lakers' de facto starting point guard currently has him dishing out a league-high - and career-best - 11 assists per game. The 34-year-old has also pitched in 7.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per contest while connecting on 36% of his 3-point looks.

Brooks went on to call the Lakers the best team in basketball. With the club boasting a league-best 17-2 record and James playing some of the best ball of his career, it's hard to argue with the Wizards' bench boss.
