Report: Porzingis asked to be traded to Clippers, Heat, Nets, or Raptors before Mavs deal

Kristaps Porzingis may have had his sights set on other teams before the New York Knicks traded him to the Dallas Mavericks.

Immediately prior to last January's deal, the 7-foot-3 Latvian and his brother and agent, Janis Porzingis, asked the Knicks to trade him to either the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets, or Toronto Raptors, sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

The request came after the siblings discovered that New York was in discussion with the Mavericks, according to Shelburne. However, the trade was finalized before the Porzingis brothers returned home from a meeting with team officials.

The seven-player deal with the Mavs went down on Jan. 31, while Porzingis was still sidelined from an ACL injury he suffered almost a year earlier. As was previously reported, the New Orleans Pelicans apparently rejected a Knicks offer of Porzingis for Anthony Davis.

At the time, the trade was considered a way for New York to clear cap space for the summer's crop of A-list free agents, including Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Both passed on the Knicks, instead choosing to sign with the crosstown Nets.
