Magic's Isaac out at least 8-10 weeks with knee injury
Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac is out indefinitely after an MRI revealed he suffered a posterior lateral corner injury and a medial bone contusion, the team announced. He'll be re-evaluated in 8-10 weeks.
"While this certainly is disappointing news, there was no damage to his ACL, MCL, and PCL ligaments," team president Jeff Weltman said. "All signs point to a complete recovery and this should not impact his future growth."
Driving to the hoop barely two minutes into play Wednesday night, Isaac collided with Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal, resulting in a hyperextended left knee. The 22-year-old had to be carried off the court on a stretcher.
Even after his injury-shortened appearance, Isaac ranks fourth in the league in blocks per game (2.4) and 10th in steals per contest (1.6) in addition to recording 12 points, 6.9 rebounds, and an effective field-goal percentage of 50.9%.
Thanks in part to Isaac's growth on the defensive end, the Magic enter Thursday's slate ranked 11th in defensive rating, conceding 106.2 points per 100 possessions. In 949 minutes with the third-year pro on the floor, Orlando's defense has allowed a defensive rating of 105.1.
The Magic boast a 15-19 record, good enough for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. However, Orlando sits just two games ahead of the Chicago Bulls and three ahead of the Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons in the standings.
