Report: Knicks interested in acquiring Pistons' Drummond
Another team has entered the Andre Drummond sweepstakes.
The New York Knicks have shown interest in acquiring the Detroit Pistons big man, reports Stadium's Shams Charania, who adds that Detroit is believed to be seeking at least one first-round pick or young players in any deal for Drummond.
New York has three first-rounders at its disposal over the next two seasons, including the Dallas Mavericks' 2021 selection acquired in the Kristaps Porzingis deal ahead of last season's trade deadline.
But the Knicks are in "no rush" to part ways with any of their picks over the next two seasons, according to Charania, a stance that has reportedly prevented trade talks from progressing.
Drummond, who was born in Mount Vernon, New York, grew up rooting for the Knicks, according to James Edwards III of The Athletic. But the star center was adamant about his desire to stay with the Pistons in an interview with ESPN's Nick Friedell last week.
"If I start somewhere, I try to finish there, try to complete the mission, which is to win a championship here," the 26-year-old said. "It will never be me that wants to go anywhere ... I love being here (in Detroit). I would love to play here the rest of my career."
Averaging 17.8 points and an NBA-best 16.2 rebounds per game for Detroit this season, Drummond has reportedly garnered interest from the Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, and Toronto Raptors in recent weeks.
