Report: Waiters impressed at Lakers workout
Waiters Island might soon be relocating to Southern California.
Free-agent guard Dion Waiters impressed during a workout with the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Waiters will next meet with Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, general manager Rob Pelinka, and senior team adviser Kurt Rambis, Charania adds.
The 28-year-old started this season with the Miami Heat but was suspended by the team on three separate occasions. He didn't play his first game until Jan. 24 and only appeared in two other contests before being held out of the lineup again.
Waiters was then traded to the Memphis Grizzlies at the Feb. 6 deadline as part of a three-team deal that landed Andre Iguodala in Miami. The Grizzlies promptly waived Waiters, who's been on the open market ever since.
The former fourth overall draft pick averaged 13.9 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 36.8% from 3-point range over four seasons with the Heat.
The Lakers are also reportedly planning to host a workout with veteran swingman JR Smith at some point this week.
