Bogut unhappy with NBL's handling of canceled final

The Australian NBL crowned the Perth Wildcats champions of its season Thursday, two days after the grand final series between the Wildcats and Sydney Kings was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Perth had been leading the best-of-five series 2-1 when Sydney refused to continue playing, citing the coronavirus concerns. That decision appears to have been supported by Kings center Andrew Bogut, but the longtime NBAer seemed displeased by the league's handling of the matter.

"After almost three hours of back and forth (and plenty of tears), we came to what ultimately was the hardest decision any athlete or team could make," Bogut tweeted Thursday.

"I want to go on record and say I am beyond embarrassed and disappointed in regards to how this was handled by our league from the week leading up to the grand final series," Bogut continued. He also added that his frustrations have nothing to do with the Wildcats being crowned champions.

The three games played in the grand final were done so with no spectators in the stands. Australia had more than 700 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday.
