Jazz laying off 'limited number' of employees due to pandemic

The Utah Jazz confirmed that members of their staff have been laid off due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to a statement given to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski by the team's parent company, the Larry H. Miller Group.

The layoffs will impact non-basketball staff, sources told Wojnarowski, and compensation is reportedly being reduced for some employees.

"Due to the impact on our customer-facing businesses from this unprecedented pandemic, the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, of which the Utah Jazz are a part, unfortunately had to make difficult decisions to reduce a small percentage of our workforce," the statement reads.

After attempting to cut costs, including reducing executive compensation, the organization said it "reached a point where we have had to say farewell to a limited number of our valued employees."

Jazz All-Star Rudy Gobert's positive test for COVID-19 forced the NBA to suspend play on March 11. Fellow Jazz All-Star Donovan Mitchell later tested positive as well.
