Report: Lakers asking top executives to defer 20% of their salaries
The Los Angeles Lakers plan to ask some senior-level personnel to defer 20% of their salaries as the economic challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic continue, ESPN's Dave McMenamin reports.
The voluntary deferments are meant to help prevent Lakers employees who don't make as much money from having to take pay cuts, McMenamin adds.
In late March, the NBA reportedly cut the salaries for 100 of the league's top executives by 20%.
Cost-cutting measures haven't exclusively been targeted at those holding management positions, as the NBA and NBPA are reportedly discussing reducing players' pay. The league apparently asked players to take a 50% pay cut effective April 15, which the NBPA countered with a proposal to reduce their checks by 25% beginning in mid-May.
The NBA's indefinite hiatus is approaching the one-month mark after play was suspended March 11.
