Popovich gives pep talk to San Antonio Food Bank staff
Staff at the San Antonio Food Bank who have been working in overdrive during the COVID-19 pandemic received a pick-me-up of sorts from a famous city resident this week.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich held a conference call with workers on Monday, and he passed along some motivational messages.
"It was pretty sweet, pretty special," food bank president and CEO Eric Cooper told the San Antonio Express-News' Tom Orsborn.
"He told them some stories about some tough games and how to get through a crisis," he added.
With many out of work during the pandemic, the food bank provided meals for a reported 10,000 households at a drive-through distribution center last week, an operation that left staff exhausted.
"(Popovich) said, 'We are just entertainers playing a sport that doesn't mean much, but you guys are serving the community,'" Cooper said. "Our staff and volunteers really appreciated it."
