Brooklyn Nets point guard Spencer Dinwiddie is obtaining a Nigerian passport to play for the Nigerian national team, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Dinwiddie is set to join head coach Mike Bown's squad that features fellow NBA players Josh Okogie, Al-Farouq Aminu, and Chimezie Metu.
A native of Los Angeles, Calif., the 27-year-old wasn't named in February as one of the 44 finalists who will compete for a spot on Team USA.
Dinwiddie was averaging 20.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds through 64 games this season before the NBA's indefinite hiatus began.
