Report: Sam Mitchell to coach new G League team in L.A.
Former NBA bench boss Sam Mitchell will coach the new G League "Select Team" set to feature top recruits Jalen Green and Isaiah Todd, sources told Forbes' Adam Zagoria.
Former NBA coaches David Fizdale and Brian Shaw have also been linked to the team in various potential roles, reports Zagoria.
Mitchell has been connected to the job since last week when the NBA announced the formation of the new team based in the Los Angeles area. Kobe Bryant's Mamba Sports Academy has been rumored as a possible home for the squad.
The G League providing a professional pathway to the NBA has been in the development stages for a few years, and the new venture could revolutionize the sport at college basketball's expense.
Mitchell, 56, coached the Toronto Raptors for just over four seasons, winning NBA Coach of the Year in 2006-07. He also oversaw the Minnesota Timberwolves for one season.
