Metta World Peace: Coaching Knicks is 'the only job I want'

Metta World Peace has the New York Knicks' head coaching gig at the top of his list of desired jobs.

World Peace expressed interest in coaching the Knicks during a conversation with Baron Davis at Chicago's Business Inside the Game summit prior to the coronavirus pandemic, according to Josh Martin of CloseUp360.com.

"I don't really care, honestly, but I would take it. It's the only job I want," he said of the Knicks' head coaching role while discussing previous comments about coaching for his alma mater. "That job, the St. John's (job) ... I'm not the type of person that would say, 'I hope somebody has a losing season or ... '"

Davis responded: "Let's hope St. John's lose, so you can get the job."

"No, it's fine. I hope they win," World Peace replied. "But there's a couple jobs that I'm, like, really ... I'm not interested in being an assistant coach. People is always saying, 'Hey, why don't you wanna be an assistant?' Because I just don't want to. I want to go straight to the head job."

The 40-year-old previously campaigned for the Knicks' head coaching job in a series of since-deleted tweets following the team's firing of David Fizdale in December.

"I will absolutely bring that street mentality to the garden," he tweeted at the time. "Red brick, hard nose, let's get it popping. QB. This would be epic for all people like me. Straight from the jungles to win a title in NYC."

World Peace played one season with the Knicks in 2013-14.
