Las Vegas and Disney World in Orlando have emerged as the top potential locations if the NBA were to resume the 2019-20 season in a bubble-like environment, The Athletic's Shams Charania reports.
In one potential plan, 30-40 essential people per team, plus close family members, would reportedly quarantine for two weeks, receiving tests for COVID-19 both before and after. Then, players who tested negative would proceed to a 14-day training camp in anticipation of returning to live game action.
In a conference call following the league's board of governor's meeting in mid-April, NBA commissioner Adam Silver acknowledged the league had - to that point - "only listened" to pitches on resuming action in a quarantined environment, though too much was still unknown to set any definitive timelines.
Last week, Silver was reportedly preparing teams for the possibility that the 2020-21 regular season will have a delayed start. There is support for a scenario where the season begins in December, with The Finals concluding in July or August.
The NBA is currently set to allow teams in jurisdictions with relaxed social distancing policies to reopen their facilities to players for individual practices starting May 8. The measures will allow many players to access equipment such as a basketball net for the first time since team facilities closed and access to public gyms was barred by the league in mid-March.
