Report: Teams are allowed 6 assistants in workouts, head coaches still banned
The NBA is loosening restrictions for some team personnel looking to attend player workouts.
Up to six assistant coaches or other player development personnel will now be permitted to supervise individual player workouts at their respective training facilities, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
In a statement released April 27, the league restricted all coaching staffs from attending team workouts. Head coaches are reportedly still barred from observing them, Wojnarowski adds.
Some teams in markets that are loosening stay-at-home orders will open their training centers Friday for the first time since mid-March.
The workouts are entirely voluntary for players, and no more than four will be allowed inside a facility at any time. Furthermore, they are not permitted to partake in any activity that would require an individual to be within 12 feet of them, The New York Times' Marc Stein reported Tuesday.
To date, the Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Cleveland Cavaliers have confirmed they will open their facilities Friday. The Sacramento Kings will do so Monday, sources told The Athletic's Sam Amick. The Los Angeles Lakers are targeting a reopening date of May 16, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
