Mitchell says he's good with Gobert: 'We're going out there ready to hoop'
Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell is ready to take the court again with Rudy Gobert.
"Right now, we're good. We’re going out there ready to hoop," he told reporters Thursday regarding their relationship, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon. "I think the biggest thing that kind of sucked was that it took away from the guys on the team, took away from what the guys on the team were trying to do.
"I really wish that, going forward, I think that will be the primary focus, us jelling as a team," he continued, per MacMahon. "Obviously, Rudy and I had COVID and whatever happened, happened. But now we're ready to hoop and focus on the team as a whole."
Mitchell tested positive for the coronavirus a day after Gobert's own positive result convinced the league to suspend the season. While there isn't any medical evidence Gobert passed the virus to Mitchell (or vice versa), the incident reportedly strained their relationship to a point where it no longer appeared salvageable.
The two were the only Jazz players to test positive. They were both medically cleared on March 27. While Mitchell has said he was asymptomatic after contracting the virus, Gobert recently revealed he is still dealing with a reduced sense of smell due to the disease.
Mitchell and Gobert will attempt to improve the Jazz's playoff positioning during the NBA's restart in Orlando later this month. Utah has already clinched a postseason berth but can still potentially finish as high as second in the Western Conference by the end of the regular season.
