Report: Wizards' Bryant, Payton test positive, Mathews not with team

Washington Wizards starters Thomas Bryant and Gary Payton II didn't travel with the team to the NBA's Walt Disney World campus on Tuesday after both tested positive for the coronavirus, sources told the Washington Post's Ava Wallace.

Reserve shooting guard Garrison Mathews is also reportedly not with the team for personal reasons.

Wizards head coach Scott Brooks wouldn't comment on the trio's absence. It's unclear if any of the three will be available as Washington prepares to continue its season in Orlando, starting with a game against the Phoenix Suns on July 31.

Bryant has averaged 12.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists over 38 games this campaign (28 starts). Payton, who was signed midseason, has put up just 3.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, but he still started 17 of his 29 appearances this season. Mathews, an undrafted rookie, has averaged 5.4 points per contest with 41.3% shooting from beyond the arc in 18 outings - all off the bench.

The Wizards are already without their two leading regular-season scorers - two-time All-Star Bradley Beal and floor-spacing specialist Davis Bertans. Beal is recovering from a shoulder injury, and Bertans has opted out to maintain his health as he approaches free agency this offseason.
